The Children’s Center is still in need of donations in order to provide school supplies to needy kids.

Higher prices for supplies is making the need greater in two ways.

“Several items have gone up significantly in price this year,” said Sandy Barber of the Children’s Center. “That means we will need more cash this year to purchase the same amount of supplies. It may also mean that more families come to us seeking assistance.”

Last year the nonprofit organization gave free school supplies to 726 children. In the past fifteen years, this effort has collectively helped more than 6,000 students in Fannin County.

Family Video is offering a coupon for rent one, get one rental free for anyone who drops of a school supply donation for the center at their store on Center Street in Bonham.

Donations of school supplies can also be delivered to the center at 112 West Fifth Street in Bonham. Financial contributions can be mailed or brought to the center as well. Checks should be made out to FCCC and include a brief notation that the gift is for school supplies. All gifts are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Organizers request that contributions arrive by August 20 or earlier if at all possible.

Katie and Cassidy Barber have volunteered their time to help assemble school supply bags.

Sign-ups and distribution will take place at the Children’s Center at 112 West Fifth Street in Bonham on August 22, 23 and 24 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon and 2:00-5:00 p.m. Parents or other caregivers should bring the child’s social security card and some proof of need, such as Medicaid card, food stamps or paycheck stub.
