Brad Underwood, CEO of  TAPS Public Transportation announces the launch of the Go Red River Project  August 20, 2012 a partnership between Texas and Oklahoma.

Underwood stated, “For the very first time in history, Texas and Oklahoma will work together to transport riders from one side of the Red River to the other. TAPS has received numerous calls requesting service from students, employees, and tourism groups to travel across the Red River.”

In order for this to become a reality TAPS  Public Transportation joined forces and partnered with Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Choctaw Nation Career Development, SORTS Transportation, and Victory Life Academy.

“This grant funded project between Texas and Oklahoma has been in the making for a long time, and to see it come full circle is not only spectacular but heartwarming,” commented Underwood.

Beginning August 20, students who need to travel state-to-state will have access to the Storm Route.  This Monday-through-Friday route will begin departure points Monday, August 20 at the TAPS Transportation headquarters, 6104 Texoma Parkway in Sherman, traveling north and stopping at Parkside Baptist Church in Denison, Texas and Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma, before returning.

The new route will allow riders to access free WiFi on all buses, relax in comfort on the way to work or school and back, enjoy no-hassle parking, and save money on fuel cost as well as personal vehicle maintenance.  The Go Red River Route is the most efficient way to get employees, students, and or tourist/ customers to their final destination and on time. This route will cut down on productive time that is otherwise lost in traffic.  And, it helps attract the most talented people and the most innovative businesses to our area.   With all the agencies joining together TAPS has tried to look for positive signs that the economy is recovering.

“It’s obvious from the surge in public transit ridership that people want public transportation,” states Underwood.

The Go Red River routes are dependable, reliable, and comfortable. This grant funded partnership between Texas and Oklahoma will open many doors for the rider.  While fuel prices are at an all-time high, this also adds to the reason to board the Go Red River route.
