Finalists named in 2012 Ruby Allmond Songwriting Contest

Bonham -- All the entries are in, the judges have made their decision and the 10 finalists for the 2012 Ruby Allmond Songwriting Contest have been announced.

The top 10 songwriters this year are comprised of five new finalists and five who return from the contest's previous two years.

Lou Ann Petty, a native of Cumby, Texas who won the inaugural Ruby Allmond Songwriting Contest in 2010 will be looking to repeat that success as she sings "Cold, Cold Wind."

Ernest Sparks of Ladonia, Texas, the runner-up to Petty in 2010, returns to the contest in 2012 to sing "The Hard Road."

Gary Hamilton, a resident of Bailey, Texas and the third-place winner in 2011 is back in the top 10 this year to perform "Where it's Raining."

Two more songwriters who have been finalists in the contest before are back for another try -- Jill Hobbs of Hawkins, Texas will sing "Dark Sabine" and Randy Wallace of Commerce, Texas will sing "You Cracked My Rose Colored Glasses."

First-timers on the contest's top 10 list are Mark Stempler of Bonham, Texas singing "Texas Women," Micaela Howeth of Richardson, Texas is set the perform "Texas Kerosene," Kalyn Jager of Savoy, Texas will sing "I Know the One," Robert A. Owen of Burleson, Texas will sing "Send You Home," and Brian Lackey of Dodd City, Texas will perform "Don't Cry For Me."

The contest will be held August 4 at Bailey Inglish Auditorium in Bonham. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the program starts at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
