Stitches of love made a lovely baby quilt! Tiffany Aukes was the 4-H project leader who had the vision to offer a quilting project. She applied to get fabrics from the State 4-H Office to enter the Quilt Challenge contest. Fannin County was approved to receive their fabric. The youth under the direction of Miss Aukes had to take the material that they received and make a quilt. Immediately the group decided to make a baby quilt and donate it to the Fannin Pregnancy Care Center. Nyasha Alexander, Cloudi Bland, Selah Burnett, Marcie Harris, and Eric Peters worked dilligently for several months to make this quilt.

The fabric happily displays many critters from dazzling dragonflies to fancy frogs. Barbara Harris, Jill Russell, Cindy Berg and Vonda Hamilton also helped with the project. Nyasha Alexander did a fantastic job as the youth leader for this project.

Why did they make this gift for the Fannin Pregnancy Care Center? The 4-H youth understood the great mission of this local organization . The Fannin County Pregnancy Care Center under the direction of Glenda Rudy and Karola Brookshire seeks to help women with pregnancy. The center provides complimentary and confidential services such as pregnancy tests, abortion information, abortion alternatives, sonograms, individual support, classes, abstinence classes in schools, and other resources.

For more information about the care center, call 903-640-8230 or look at their website at www.fanninpregnancy.org The center is located at 1500 N. Center Street in Bonham.

Selah Burnett, the president of the Bonham 4-H Club also wrote a pro-life essay which was featured in the Pregnancy Care Center's June newsletter. The directors said that the essay has received a lot of positive response.

The quilt did not win the State Quilt Challenge but the 4-Hers had a lot of fun making it, and the quilt was a welcomed gift at the Pregnancy Care Center. The 4-Hers enjoyed a tour of the center. The directors, Glenda and Karola, do a marvelous work serving Fannin County, but they depend upon the community to join them in their efforts. Currently the Pregnancy Care Center has a Baby Bottle Campaign in which businesses and churches are encouraged to take empty baby bottles and encourage people to fill them up with change. This spare change helps to provide for the center's programming.

The Bonham 4-H Club thoroughly enjoyed sharing their quilt, a labor of love with the Fannin Pregnancy Care Center. Fannin 4-H challenges you to consider how you might help.
