Bonham – While some Texas farms and ranches span thousands of acres, smaller operations need support and programs, as well. Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) Small Farm & Ranch Committee aims to serve those farmers and ranchers who have less than 100 acres and who have been involved in agriculture for fewer than five years.

“Texans are seeing the benefits of a more rural lifestyle. Some are dabbling in agriculture by buying land and planting a few acres of crops or raising a few dozen cattle,” said Jerry Magness, president of Fannin County Farm Bureau. “We hope to be a helpful resource to these neighbors who are just getting started.”

Through the Small Farm & Ranch Committee, TFB helps guide landowners through a variety of issues that they likely will encounter, including water, taxes, eminent domain and private property rights. Regardless of the level of agricultural production, the organization aims to assist landowners in navigating these aspects of rural living.

“Whether you are a hobby farmer or run a hunting business, those new to rural living may struggle to navigate the issues unique to this lifestyle,” Magness said. “Who better to guide these new farmers and ranchers than Texas Farm Bureau?”
