The Friends of Pottsboro Library will host a Chautauqua-style lecture based on the writings of Dr. Gideon Lincecum beginning 12 noon July 18 at Pottsboro Area Public Library.
Chautauqua refers to a style of presentation where presenters portray a prominent historical figure while dressed in full costume and speak to audiences in first-person, giving them a glimpse into the past.
Working as a team, Austin College professors Dr. Jerry Lincecum and Dr. Peggy Redshaw will bring to life “Dr. Gideon,” one of America’s major pioneering naturalists. Dr. Lincecum will appear in 19th-century costume to talk about Gideon’s observations of the people and cultures in Texas in 1835.
The event is a brown bag lunch, free to the public.
