Commerce, Texas (July 3, 2012)—The Student Veterans Association at Texas A&M University-Commerce announces the Chili’s Give Back Night Monday, July 9, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Greenville, Texas located at 7099 Interstate 30.

Chili’s restaurant is partnering with the Student Veterans Association to help raise funds for needed Veteran’s Lounge maintenance and updates. With each flyer presented Chili’s will donate 10 percent of the pre-tax purchase. All proceeds from the evening will go to fund a study and research area in the Veterans Lounge and a scholarship for the student veterans of A&M-Commerce.

The Student Veterans Association works toward creating a partnership with the Commerce community providing solid role models and leaders throughout the college campus and a sense of camaraderie for United States military veterans, spouses and their children currently furthering their education.

“SVA assists in the very complex transition into school life and civilian life,” said Scott Mobley SVA president. “It is extremely important for veterans to assist each other into the transition of school life after active duty and to assist in the transition to civilian life to maintain the camaraderie amongst those of us who have served and to remind them that they are not alone in the transition.”

The organization has been active on the university campus since it was originally founded as East Texas College in 1889. There are currently 587 students utilizing veteran benefits and a number of faculty and staff who also have military connections. As a 501c (19) organization, it is dedicated to providing activities and resources for these student veterans and we need your help.

“We have found that many veterans coming to A&M-Commerce have not been in school for quite some time and need support adjusting,” said Jill Mobley, University College advising assistant. “It is hard for many to relate to the ‘normal’ college student because of age differences and life experiences.”

Supporters of the SVA can arrive at the restaurant any time between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday.
