City of Bonham pledges its support in the fight against senior hunger

Bonham, TX – Mayor Roy Floyd of the City of Bonham will present a check to the Bonham Senior Citizens Center at an informal ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Bonham Senior Citizens Center located at 210 E. 6th Street in Bonham. The money given to the organization will be used to support programs for the Bonham Senior Center including the senior nutrition program operated by Meals on Wheels of Texoma. Mayor Floyd will present the check to Greg Pittman, Executive Director of MOWOT and Joan Robbins, Bonham Senior Center Manager during the presentation.

As Mayor of Bonham, Roy Floyd has been a staunch supporter of Meals on Wheels of Texoma, and presently serves on the Board of Directors for the organization. In addition to supporting the organization in a leadership capacity, Mayor Floyd has steadfastly supported MOWOT as a volunteer, helping deliver meals to clients’ homes and participating in Mayors for Meals Day for many years.

About the Bonham Senior Citizens Center - The Bonham Senior Citizens Center is open to the public Monday through Friday. The new facility which opened early this year offers senior citizens a wonderful facility for activities, meetings, socializing, and lunchtime meals. The center provides ample space for activities like the quilting club (which meets every morning at the center), and provides a meeting place for social and civic organizations such as the “Friends of Bonham Seniors.” The center is also the Fannin County home of Meals on Wheels of Texoma (MOWOT) which provides home-delivered meals to homebound seniors and serves lunch Monday through Friday to anyone at least 60 years of age. Lunch served at the center is provided at no cost to the individual and is a great way for seniors get a hot, nutritious meal while maintaining an active lifestyle. Anyone at least 60 years of age can call (903)583-8573 before 9:00am to let the center know you will be joining them for lunch.


About Meals on Wheels of Texoma - Meals on Wheels of Texoma has been serving the nutritional and emotional needs of local senior citizens and disabled persons since 1980. Over 370,000 meals were served last year to MOWOT clients, who represent one of the most vulnerable segments in today’s society. Through its activities, MOWOT addresses the disease that is senior hunger.
