At the Bonham Rotary Club’s regularly scheduled meeting on June 27, the new Rotary year began with their installation of new officers for the year 2012-20013. After enjoying a delicious prime rib lunch with all the trimmings and bread pudding, prepared by Chef Ken Elliott and his staff, Outgoing President Brent Speck gave the opening remarks, commended his board, and gave each board member a Rotary International mouse pad.

Brent then passed the gavel to Bonham Rotary Club’s President Brad Dardaganian. President Brad gave a brief speech about his desire to continue the annual projects that the club does and possibly adding more.

He then announced his board for 2012-2013 which are: Peggy Lane, President Elect, Sandy Barber, Secretary, Garrett Amlin, Treasurer, Carl McEachern, Sergeant-At-Arms, Richard Glaser, Club Service, Nancy Lawrence, Vocational and International Service, Allen Sanderson, Foundation Chair, Dr. Jerry Hopson, Club Historian, and Tommie Sue Turner, Public Relations.

The Bonham Rotary Club was founded in 1921 and since then has organized, funded and delivered a variety of ongoing services to the community. It has enabled charitable and community service organizations to carry out their work by providing financial support and leadership. It also has facilitated fellowship among members, new and old, by providing stimulating programs and activities.

The first president of the Bonham Rotary Club was Ralph A. Risser, Jr. The original Rotary Club was organized in Chicago, Illinois by Paul P. Harris. It first met February 23, 1905 with 4 businessmen attending. The name “Rotary” was chosen because the club met in rotation at each member’s place of business.

The Bonham Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the Family Life Center.
