For the third year, the Fannin County Historical Commission is a winner of the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Historical Commission. “Every year there are CHCs (County Historical Commissions) that go above and beyond the state statutory requirements to preserve and protect county historic resources,” said Amy Hammons, CHC Outreach Coordinator of the Texas Historical Commission. The award will be presented at the Fannin County Commissioners’ Court at a later date.
FCHC is dedicated to preserving history through oral histories, locating and recording information about historical cemeteries, and making this available to the public. FCHC members are happy to assist citizens with research, and watch for opportunities to alert the public about the importance of local history. Also, FCHC teams up with other groups several times a year to bring tourism to Bonham and Fannin County to help the economy.
Currently, FCHC is looking for historic quilts to display at the Quilt Hop on July 28. If you have quilts you would like displayed, would like to volunteer, or would like other information, please call 903-583-5947 and leave a message. Fannin County Historical Commission is located in the historic railroad depot at 1 North Center Street, Bonham. The public is invited to attend the monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.
