Bonham -- North Texas gardeners are experiencing one of the best starts to the growing season in years and the City of Bonham will officially unveil its first community garden 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Catron Park.

Bonham Community Garden has been a team project from the beginning that has enjoyed the support of local environmentalists, city officials and local gardeners.

Chris Voss, president of Citizens Organizing for Resources & Environment (CORE) initially contacted Bonham City Manager Corby Alexander in regard to the project and Bonham City Council approved the community garden.

Joe Howdeshell had the difficult task of tilling the grassy area into a garden plot.  Then, it was citizens with gardening equipment that continued tilling the community garden.

Fannin County artist Rachel Van Citters designed and painted the sign for Bonham Community Garden.

Anyone wanting to help with this project might consider donating tools, a shed to house gardening equipment or cash donations for the purchase of tools and upkeep of Bonham Community Garden.
