Bonham -- With great reluctance, the Bonham City Council accepted the resignation of Bonham City Manager Corby Alexander at a special called meeting Thursday evening and wished him well at his new job.

Mr. Alexander has been named city manager in La Porte, Texas, a Houston-area town approximately three times as large as Bonham.

Alexander began a five-year run as city manager in Bonham on April 16, 2007 and he reports to work in La Porte July 2.

"I can tell you this, Bonham is going to miss Corby Alexander," Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd remarked.

"Well, I will definitely miss Bonham," Alexander replied sincerely.  "It has been a positive experience and a rewarding experience.  I have enjoyed working with every one of you.  But, I will be back...for the employee luncheon every year," he said with his trademark grin.

"Corby promised us three years and gave us a wonderful five years," said Bonham City Council member John Burnett.

A reception to honor Corby Alexander will be held 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21 in the council chambers.

"I've had people call me from all over northeast Texas who want to come by and wish Corby well," stated Mayor Floyd.

The City of Bonham has posted the job opening and will now accept applications for the position of city manager for three weeks.

The outgoing city manager was asked if he would suggest the City of Bonham appoint an interim city manager.

"I'd say you might want to make that call in three weeks," Alexander suggested.

In other action, Bonham City Council voted to refinance the existing bank note on the North Fire Station. The duration of the note will not be extended, however by refinancing at a lower percentage rate the city will save approximately $26,000 over the length of the note.
