The annual Afternoon Tea and Fashion Show has become one of the most elegant events in Fannin County, as the CAC is beautifully transformed into an English Tea Room with pink and white linens, floral teacup centerpieces, and this year, honey straw and cake pop centerpieces as well.

A music trio consisting of; Katie DuPuis, piano, Albert Carney, cello, and Kendra Blake, clarinet, played throughout the tea. A high tea, in which classics such as scones with lemon curd, strawberry preserves, and cream, cucumber sandwiches, curry chicken salad, chilled strawberry soup and an extensive variety of other delicious items was served by young men from 4-H.

The hat contest winners were, 1st place: Katie DuPuis, 2nd Place: Andrea Bond, 3rd Place: Eva Sikes, who were each awarded cash prizes, donated by Lamond Smith of Florida. In addition to the fashions 4-H Clothing and Textile project members either constructed or purchased through comparison shopping, community volunteers modeled fashions from Second Time Around, providing an exciting fashion show experience, complete with runway music.

The Afternoon Tea and Fashion Show serves dual purposes; first, as the county contest, qualifying 4-H Clothing and Textile project members for the district fashion show, and second, as a benefit event for the CAC and FCFCC. Over the course of the three years, Fannin County 4-H youth have raised a total of $1,900 for these organizations. It has been an excellent platform by which local youth have taken an activity and expanded it to benefit others within their community.

Ileana Rivera, Co-Chairperson, Afternoon Tea and Fashion Show Committee, presents check to Becky Williams, Director, Fannin County Family Crisis Center, with product donor representative, Melanie, Starbucks in Sherman.

4-H serves local youth in communities throughout the nation, providing opportunities for them to learn and grow through educational projects, and develop life skills and leadership through community service activities.
