COMMERCE, TEXAS -- The Commerce Rotary Club is busy preparing last-minute details for its seventh annual Commerce Idol talent show and scholarship fundraiser, to be held Saturday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Commerce High School auditorium.  The event is the Commerce Rotary’s largest fundraiser of the year, and will feature residents of Commerce and its surrounding areas, as well as students enrolled in Commerce schools and Texas A&M University-Commerce, showcasing family-friendly acts that may include vocal, instrumental or dance performance as well as comedy skits or other medium.

“Commerce Idol is easily the most exciting and entertaining event we’re involved with each year," said Commerce Rotary President Jalinna Jones.  "Not only is it a fun time for kids and adults to show off their talents, but it is also Commerce Rotary’s most important fundraiser.  The money we raise is used for the scholarships we award each year to Commerce High School seniors.  Students are selected each year and each are awarded $500 for four school semesters.”

This year’s contest has four age categories, in addition to a church group category to consist of three or more people: 3rd-5th Grade, 6th-8th Grade, 9th-12th Grade, and 18 or older.

Performances will be scored on overall presentation, costumes or attire, audience enthusiasm and overall talent.  First and second place trophies will be awarded for each group category and cash prizes will also be given to the first-place winners.
