Parents, family invited to join students at UNT’s Family Weekend

DENTON (UNT), Texas – This weekend, University of North Texas students can share their campus environment with friends, parents and family members at UNT’s Family Weekend, a three-day event with a variety of family activities at UNT’s Apogee Stadium and various locations on the Denton campus.
On Sept. 23-25 (Friday-Sunday), parents can get a glimpse of campus life, learn more about UNT services, the campus and the city of Denton, and network with other parents and families of UNT students and community members.
Events include campus tours, parents’ receptions, and planetarium video screening in the Sky Theater as well as a Friday evening dinner, Mean Green tailgating activities, and tickets to the Saturday football game against Indiana University at Apogee Stadium. Onsite registration is available Sept. 23 (Friday) from 4-8 p.m. at Apogee Stadium in the Gate 2 concourse and Sept. 24 (Saturday) 8-10 a.m. in the UNT Coliseum. Registration is $55 per adult, $25 per child ages 4-17, free for one UNT student with the purchase of an adult pass, and $20 for each additional student. No registration is required to participate in the chili cook-off or Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event.
On Sept. 24 (Saturday) at 9 a.m., family weekend participants are invited to join UNT President V. Lane Rawlins for breakfast in the UNT Coliseum, which is located at the southeast corner of North Texas Boulevard and Highland Street. Rawlins will present the Generations of Excellence award to the family of Robert “Harry” Bishop.
This award is given to a family that has demonstrated loyalty to UNT, provided service to the university over several generations and has many family members who have attended and graduated from UNT.
The tradition of the Bishop family spans seven decades, with 12 family members who attended or graduated from UNT between the 1920s and 1986. Robert Bishop graduated from then North Texas State College in 1953 with a bachelor of business administration in management. Harry is a member of the North Texas Alumni Association and UNT’s President’s Council.
