Kwik Chek donation helps Women Rock keep rolling

As soon as the pink fire truck pulled in and stopped at the Kwik Chek on Hwy 121 in Bonham, it was attracting a crowd.  This pink flagship of Women Rock, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating awareness of breast cancer, is also in demand for events all across North Texas.

And while this pink fire truck has certainly proved to be a high-profile vehicle, it also tends to run up high gas bills.

To help Women Rock meet their scheduling needs, Doyce Taylor, owner of Kwik Chek and McCraw Oil, and Sherry Capehart of Kwik Chek donated $1,000 in the form of gas cards.

"I had no idea how many requests would pour in," says Women Rock founder LouAnn Daniel. "This allows us to say 'yes' when people call to ask if we can bring our pink fire truck. It allows us to keep the truck on the road without taking away from what we do for the women."

Women Rock helps underprivileged and under-insured women get mammograms, a critically important method of early detection that only 37% of women in those categories can afford.

Memorial Day weekend was a good example of how busy the pink fire truck has been. On Friday, Women Rock had the fire truck at Relay For Life of Fannin County.  The pink fire truck was in Frisco on Saturday where breast cancer survivor Dianne Lehde threw out the first ball in a Pink Out Softball Tournament. Then on Monday, the pink fire truck was in Denison to carry the Denison High School cheerleaders in the Memorial Day Parade.
