McKINNEY, TEXAS (April 20, 2011) – The Pantry in Historic Downtown McKinney will be making a television appearance on Friday, April 22 at 9 p.m. on the Food Network program Outrageous Food. For the show, the Pantry recreated one of their signature pies, already a McKinney favorite, in a giant way for a national audience.
“When the Pantry was given the opportunity to be featured on the Food Network show, Outrageous Food, we were thrilled. We worked to make not only an outrageous pie, but an extremely tasty pie in true Pantry tradition. Now we're excited for the community, our customers and the entire nation to see the final result,” Andy Cope, Marketing Coordinator for The Pantry.
The huge, and delicious, chocolate cream pie featured on the show measured five feet in diameter and weighed in at more than 350 pounds. The McKinney Police and Fire Departments and members of the U.S. Military were invited to help celebrate and enjoy the delicious giant pie along with show host Tom Pizzica.
The Pantry Restaurant has been a favorite in the Historic Downtown McKinney dining scene since 1982 and is famous for its pie creations.
“We are so excited to have one of our downtown restaurants featured on a national network as prestigious as the Food Network. The spotlight on the Pantry is truly deserved, and this show embodies what Historic Downtown is all about – by rising above the ordinary, we have show-stopping finds not offered anywhere else,” said Main Street Director Ty Lake.
The episode of Outrageous Food that features the giant pie at The Pantry has host Tom Pizzica traveling from Philadelphia to try a two-foot Philly cheesesteak to Brookfield, Colo., where Corona’s Mexican Grill serves a six-pound taco salad. The second season of the show premiered April 8 and follows “Big Chef” Pizzica, a former finalist from The Next Food Network Star, on his quest to unearth outrageous foods across the nation.
