Bells, Texas -- Lois Evelyn Tillery Smith was born to William Price and Ada Story Tillery on February 11, 1918 in Benbrook, Texas. She married Edmund Bennett Smith on May 31, 1936. She died on March 27, 2011 at the Texoma Medical Center, in Denison, Texas, surrounded by her family whom she adored and loved with all her heart and soul.
Lois was a professional seamstress and worked for the public for fifty plus years. She continued to sew for her family and friends until the day she was called home. Restyling old wedding dresses, making costumes, doing anything that her children or grandchildren wanted or needed. There was nothing that "Grannie" could not fix and her answer, when asked if she could do something was - "no problem" - and it was done!
Grannie lived most of her life in Grand Prairie, Texas and in September 1997 she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in Bells, Texas. Bells became her home, First United Methodist Church became her church and friends and family became one and the same to her.
The most important date of the year was the "GRANNIE SMITH REUNION" when the entire family took a retreat for three days. The place of choice was one of the great Texas State Parks where there was more food, more laughs, more tears and more fun than any other place or time of the year. Grannie would start as soon as one year was over and begin sewing for the next year. This was her way of subsidizing the cost of the facility because all of her sewing, crocheting, knitting etc went on auction at some ridiculous prices because everyone wanted one of Grannie's masterpieces.
Grannie is survived by her three children; Bob and his wife, Helen Smith of Waller, Texas, Jim and his wife, Martha Smith of Mabank, Texas, and Faye Nell and her husband James Anderson of Bells, Texas. 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way. Also one sister, Martha Seeber of Irving, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Her grandsons will be the pallbearers: Randy Smith, Steven Smith, Scott Smith, Chip Smith, Tom Smith, Tym Smith, Coy Graham and Gary Anderson.
Her granddaughters will be the honorary pallbearers: Rebecca Fuchs, Judy McCallister, Terry Balson and Tessy Booker.
Visitation and services will be at Mullican-Little Funeral Home. State Hwy 56 East, Bells, Texas. Pastor Steven Martinez, First United Methodist Church, Bells, Texas, will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 29 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Services will be on Wednesday March 30 at 10 am. Burial will be in Irving, Texas at Oak Grove Cemetery 3:00 p.m.
