Wild Lives - In the Company of Crocodiles

Tuesday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m.

The program follows the life stages of the crocodile, contemplates their place in the natural world and how they fight to maintain it.

POV: Salt

Tuesday, August 17 at 9:00 p.m.

Award-winning photographer Murray Fredericks travels to Lake Eyre in South Australia to document a unique environment where sky, water and land merge. Salt interweaves photos, time-lapse sequences and a video diary. The film is made in collaboration with documentarian Michael Angus.

 

Live from Lincoln CenterSouth Pacific

Wednesday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m.

The Tony Award-winning production of Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s South Pacific makes its television debut. Based on James Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book Tales of the South Pacific, the musical tells the romantic story of two couples on a tropical island during WWII and how their romance is threatened by war and their own prejudice. 

 

Great Museums: New Orleans – A Living Museum of Music

Wednesday, August 18 at 10:00 p.m.

The award-winning Great Museums series travels to New Orleans to celebrate the “living museum,” dedicated to preserving, protecting and exhibiting the traditional music of New Orleans – namely American jazz. The program is narrated by Wendell Pierce with music by Irvin Mayfield.

The Nimitz arrives in the Gulf under extreme conditions. High temperatures and grueling six-hour flight missions raise tensions as the flight crews search for terrorists on the ground.

 

Carrier – Groundhog Day

Thursday, August 19 at 8:00 p.m.

Two months in the Gulf without a single bomb dropped and the crew is frustrated. They stop for liberty in Bahrain and one of the escort ships loses a man overboard.

A concert of sweet soul music from the Big Easy when Booker T. & the MG’s take the stage with the Drive-By Truckers and special guest vocalist Bettye LaVette.

The Canadian comedian explores the great outdoors, offers handyman tips and insight into the humorous side of the male ego. Tune in for tickets to his February 19, 2011 performance in Dallas at a yet-to-be-determined location.

Max Raabe sings nostalgic songs from the 1920s and 30s with stoic silliness, backed by the Palast Orchestra.

The Queen of Soul presents a treasure trove of legendary rhythm and blues performances from the 1960s and 70s, recently recovered from film vaults in the U.S. and Europe.
