Dallas, Texas -- Funeral services for Jewel Russel Gay, age 99, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 22, 2010 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Bonham. Interment will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham. He passed away peacefully at his home in Dallas on March 19, 2010. 

Jewel Gay was born in Nashville, TN on September 11, 1910 to parents James and Della Hibdon Gay. “J.R.” was a farmer, cattleman and hauling contractor in Bonham and Dallas, Texas, and a defense contractor in Akron, Ohio, during the war years. He was a member of the Seventh and Main Baptist Church in Bonham, and the Ross Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas. 

He is survived by sons-Edward and wife Gerry, Jerry and wife Doretha, and Barry and wife Deana; grandsons-Jason and wife Denise, David and wife Patty, Brian and wife Jennifer and granddaughter-Dr. Madelyn (Russ) Gambrel; great- grandsons-Kelly and Julian Gambrel of Richmond, VA; sister-Mary Gay Anderson and brother-Joe Gay. 

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Lois Lambert Gay; sister Cleo Carroll and brothers Greston, Herman, James, Bernice, Weldon, and Earnest Gay.
