The Bonham Rotary Club was honored on March 17, 2010 to have our State Representative Larry Phillips speak. He gave a quick report on the finances of the State of Texas which is above nearly all the other states.

With the global economy declining, people are moving to Texas at the rate of approximately 1,000 per day and the state is having to deal with the constant increase. The increase is mainly in the central part of Texas from Dallas through Waco, Austin, San Antonio to Houston. He also reported on what is coming up at the next legislature session. Two big items are balancing the budget and redistricting.

State Representative Larry Phillips was elected to represent Fannin and Grayson counties in House District 62 in January 2003. He is Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on General Investigating and Ethics, Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation, and serves on the House Committee on Culture, Recreation, and Tourism.

He was also appointed in 2003 to the Select Interim Committee on Construction Industry-Related Workers' Compensation Issues. In 2005 he was appointed to serve on the Select Committee on Election Contests. In 2007 he was appointed to serve on the Joint Select Committee on the Operation and Management of the Texas Youth Commission.

In 2009 he was appointed to the interim Legislature Study Committee on Private Participation in Toll Projects and chaired the interim Select Committee on State Schools. He was most recently appointed chair of the interim Select Committee on Transportation Funding.
