Bonham -- The Bonham Lady Warriors dropped a 5-3 decision to Pittsburgh on Monday afternoon and then bounced back to pick up a 5-4 win in the second half of the doubleheader.

Both games were limited to five innings and Bonham was adjusting to playing without two seniors out with injuries.

In the opener, Bonham found themselves down 5-0 before the Lady Warriors scored three runs. The rally fell short, though, and Pittsburgh started the day with a 5-3 victory.

Katelynn Bardwell had a triple and a single, while Ashley Sanders, Haley Walker and Layton Ford all went 1-for-3 swinging the bat.

In the second game, Bonham grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first frame when Julie Nguyen drove a pitch into left field and drove in a pair of runs. Abby Lackey slapped a pitch back up the middle to score Nguyen and the Lady Warriors had a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Bonham went up 4-0 when Bardwell hammered a change-up into left field in the bottom of the second stanza.

This Pittsburgh team had beaten Bonham 6-1 in the finals of the Canton Softball Tournament on Saturday and the visitors scored twice in the top of the third and twice in the top of the fourth to leave the score all knotted up at 4-4 going into the fifth inning.

Bonham held Pittsburgh scoreless in the top half of the frame.

The Lady Warriors got a runner on in the bottom of the fifth inning when Nguyen worked the Pittsburgh pitcher for a walk. A passed ball moved the runner to second base.  Cesaly Sparks came through with a game-winning single into left field that gave Bonham an exciting 5-4 win.

The Lady Warriors are now 12-9 for the year.

Pittsburgh is 12-7 on the season.

The Lady Warriors will host Blue Ridge on Friday and Byron Nelson High School on Saturday. Next Tuesday Bonham opens District 10-3A action when Van Alstyne comes calling.
