Public comment: Freedom of speech

On Monday morning, I attended the weekly meeting of the Grayson County Commissioners Court.  To my dismay and outrage, the County Judge Drue Bynum restated his opinion that the “public comments” by the taxpaying citizens will not be allowed because it interferes with the business of the regular court proceedings.

The arrogance and the disrespect that the incumbent shows toward the average citizens is appalling.  Two members of the public … taxpayers representing the voters spoke on the importance of having the “public comments” section reinstated. Both men, usually on polar opposite sides of issues, came together to speak up for “the freedom to speak one’s mind to their elected officials.”

When I am elected your Grayson County Judge, I will immediately reinstate this forum, so that the taxpayers, citizens and voters will have freedom of speech in Grayson County. Then you will be able to question your elected official, and offer your opinions in a public manner. By allotting time in each public meeting of the Commissioner Court, citizens allowed to be heard and make their public comments.  We would build better communication between our citizens and government.

Leadership, Accountability and Transparency are badly needed in our county government. Join me “In Taking Back Our County” this November!
