Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief has extra incentive to cheer for the TCU Horned Frogs in the upcoming Tostitos Fiesta Bowl game.
Moncrief has agreed to a friendly wager with David Bieter, mayor of Boise, Idaho, over the upcoming Tostitos Fiesta Bowl game. If Boise State wins, Moncrief will wear a Boise State University Broncos jersey and cap to the next Fort Worth City Council meeting. If TCU wins, Mayor Bieter will wear a purple Horned Frogs jersey and cap to his next council meeting.
"I am confident - but never overconfident - of a Horned Frogs victory," Moncrief said. "I do not plan to wear a blue and orange jersey into Fort Worth City Council Chambers."
The No. 3 Horned Frogs will play the No. 6 Broncos in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 4 in Glendale, Ariz. It is one of only two matchups that pit undefeated teams in a Bowl Championship Series game this season.
The losing mayor will have a photo taken in the jersey and cap, along with his council members, so that the winning mayor has proof that the bet has been paid off.
Moncrief encouraged Fort Worth residents, regardless of their collegiate affiliation, to get behind the Horned Frogs in the Fiesta Bowl.
"Thousands of TCU fans, including Rosie and myself, will be in Glendale on Jan. 4 making a lot of noise in support of our hometown Horned Frogs," Moncrief said. "I want to urge everyone in Fort Worth to do all they can to support the Frogs as they finish out this historic season."
Moncrief has declared Monday, Jan. 4 as "Go Purple Day" in Fort Worth. He encouraged residents to show their TCU pride by dressing in purple and posting yard signs in support of the team. Several Fort Worth building owners and managers have agreed to shine purple lights on their structures on the evenings leading up to the Fiesta Bowl.
"The name of the game is to be purple, be loud and be proud," Moncrief said.
