The Savoy Lady Cardinals picked up a much needed win on the road against the Collinsville Lady Pirates.
Savoy held Collinsville scoreless in the first quarter with an 8-0 lead. Bailey McGehee's 8 first half points helped extend Savoy's lead to 14-2 early in the second quarter.
A lapse in both defense and offense led to a Collinsville 10-0 run to keep it close at the half, 14-12. Collinsville bounced back in the third quarter to take a 22-18 lead.
A three-pointer by McGehee kept it a one-point game leading into the fourth. Savoy's defensive pressure in the fourth quarter resulted in multiple Collinsville turnovers, which allowed the Lady Cardinals to capitalize on an 11-2 run and come away with a 32-24 victory.
McGehee led all scorers with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 7
steals. Teammate Caitlin McClain added 9 points and 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Savoy will compete in the Miller Grove Tournament this weekend. The Lady Cardinals will play the winner of Wolfe City and Avery Thursday at 3:00.
