Check out the Texoma-Grown Directory!   As part of our current focus on locally grown food, CORE (Citizens Organizing for Resources and Environment) has been gathering data from food producers and farmers’ markets in the Texoma area.

This information has been compiled into an online Directory on the CORE website, www.TexomaCORE.org.   There you will find the name/location for each grower, with a link to their detailed information.   [If you don’t have access to the internet but would like information from the Texoma-Grown Directory, you may call Paula at 903-583-9508 (between 8 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.).]

The benefits of eating locally grown foods are:   1) Reduced Cost,  2) Freshness,  3) Taste,  4) Nutrition,  5) Safety,  and 6) Money spent locally greatly increases a community's economic health.   Also, what we choose to eat drives the kind of food that is produced.  The more we choose local, sustainably grown food, the more we create a market for such foods.

Also on the CORE website:   The “Food” page has useful information — such as our brochure on why Local Food Makes $ense and links to organizations, books, and films on eating locally grown foods.   And the “Films & Forums” page will keep you up to date on our ongoing film series.   We’re now previewing several films about food, and deciding which to show you in January.

Another food-related focus for CORE is helping to launch community gardens in Fannin County.  If you have an interest in this project, please contact us at info@texomacore.org or call 903-583-9508.
