Farmersville Lady Farmers fall to Texarkana Pleasant Grove

The curtain closed on the Lady Farmers volleyball season last night in Gilmer in the Area round of the Region II 3A playoffs.  It was a bitter pill to swallow, but the girls gave it their all against a talented bunch from Texarkana Pleasant Grove.

The match was excruciatingly tight with scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-23.   Just when it looked as if the Lady Farmers were going to pull out a game, the ball just seemed to bounce the way of the young ladies from Texarkana.

Farmersville was cheered on by a large crowd of Farmers backers, who maintained a pleasantly excessive decibel level.

The loss ended six years of exciting volleyball action for the four seniors – Veronica Berry, Shelby Eaves, Becky Forbus, Tara McGuire – who have been instrumental in building a strong volleyball program.  Varsity volleyball in Farmersville began only in 2002, with the school’s first postseason game occurring in 2006, the freshman year for these four seniors.  The Lady Farmers reached the playoffs all four years, highlighted by a regional tournament appearance in 2007.  The Lady Farmers are coached by Amy Bucek.

The volleyball team has no time to rest, however, as most will move directly into basketball mode for the Lady Farmers.  Thanks for a great season and all the wonderful memories!
