Bonham junior high football takes two from Anna
By Coach Ron Kumler, Bonham ISD sports media release
Nov 6, 2009
Bonham 7th graders won 22-0 last night, while the Bonham 8th graders followed up with a 30-6 victory.
I would like to say that we, as the coaching staff of the Indians, are extremely proud of their accomplishments this season. As anyone knows, the junior high years are difficult at best. As coaches, we push them hard and, at the same time, try not to lose them. We were happy that all of our players saw playing time last night.
We start every game saying that defense wins games by creating opportunities for the offense. The 7th grade posted a shutout and the 8th grade was very close to their 4th shutout. Give Anna's 8th grade credit. They have won four games this season and we were tied with them for second place in district. They played very hard to get their 6 points.
Kenton Manis was a standout runner with two touchdown runs for the 7th grade. Kendal Kennedy and A.J. White had their usual good games. Jarrod Trompler and Ty Parsons both had drive-ending interceptions. Jaewook Park and Nathan Butcher both had outstanding games at linebacker.
The blocking and running were outstanding for the 8th grade. Dra Smith, Caleb Bohme and Darrel Gillford all had breakout runs for touchdowns and Tristan Hunt finished with a touchdown catch. Defense was a true team effort with the whole team playing and contributing. It is very hard to say who was a standout with so many names coming to mind. Their football future is truely bright. Coach Trompler was there to congratulate them on their season and told them that the secret to their future success would be staying together as a team. If they do that, it will not be second place, but first place that they will playing for.
Finally, as the L.H. Rather Coordinator, I would like to compliment the football staff on a job well done and thank them for their hard work.
