Fannin 4-H had a strong showing at the District 1V, 4-H Gold Star
Banquet last Tuesday evening, October 20 at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
The Gold Star Award is the highest honor a 4-Her can achieve through 4-H. They must show growth in leadership and service to others throughout their 4-H career to be eligible for this award.
Fannin County has 2 such examples of a Gold Star winner in Christina Gunlock and Heather Trimble. Christina is the daughter of Rick and Kay Gunlock and Heather is the daughter of Wayne and Julie Trimble. These young women have exemplified leadership in our county and district and we are very proud to call them Fannin County’s Gold Star recipients.
Also at the banquet, adult leadership is recognized and rewarded. To be awarded this you must be a dedicated adult leader who has demonstrated their love of youth by service to 4-H.
The 1st Distinguished Service Award went to Kaye Gunlock who helps to manage the Texas Star 4-H Club. Congratulations Kaye!
The 2nd award went posthumously to Tammy Kasparek. Tammy was a dedicated leader of the Bonham 4-H Club and died this past summer of Ovarian Cancer. We miss her very much. Tammy was represented by her husband, Lester and daughter, Leslie.
The District 1V 4-H Council is represented by seven 4-Her’s across 22 counties. Fannin County has the honor to have 3 District Officers on the council, Heather Trimble, 3rd Vice President, Micala Michaud, Secretary and Christina Gunlock, Public Relations. These officers helped to make it a night to remember.
