The Lions are in ninth place after shooting a 348. Tarleton State leads the 15-team field with a 312 for a four-stroke lead over Newman. Linzi Allan is the individual leader after shooting a 1-over par 72 with a four-stroke advantage.
Junior Megan Benites is tied for 36th with an 86, sophomore Malonie Oats is tied for 47th after shooting an 89, junior Kathleen May is tied for 50th after posting a 90 and junior Mallory Kempf is tied for 56th with a 91.
The Lions will return to the La Paloma Country Club in Amarillo for
Tuesdayıs final round.
Danny Jun Leads A&M-Commerce After Day One of the Bruce Williams Invitational
Junior Danny Jun is in ninth place to lead the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team after day one of the Bruce Williams Invitational in San Antonio.
Jun shot a 36-hole total of 142 (73-69) and two-under par to lead the Lions. Pair of individual players from the University of Texas - Johnathan Schnitzer and Julio Vargas - lead the field after shooting a six-under 138.
Host St. Mary's leads the team race by 12 strokes with a 575 (287-288), A&M-Commerce is 24 strokes back.
Junior Dustin Gideon, who led the Lions after the opening round with a 1-under 71, finished the day with a 148 (71-77) and is tied for 25th. Tyler Duffy is tied for 50th after posting a 154 (81-73) and Darren Whitehouse is tied for 72nd (80-80) after shooting a 160. Senior Eric Westerman is tied for 81st after recording a 162 (87-75).
Duffy, Gideon and Jun each recorded an eagle through the first 36 holes; plus Jun was one of the top players in the field after shooting one under on par 4 holes.
The Lions and the field will return to the Dominion Country Club in San
Antonio on Tuesday for the final round.
