The Trenton Tigers made the return to the gridiron for the first time since 1959 last Thursday a big one.  The 7th & 8th grade Tigers traveled to Savoy to take on the Cardinals on a muddy field and came out victorious by the score of 14-10.

Clint Cowan took the opening kickoff 68 yards to the endzone to score the Tigers first touchdown in 50 years.  The point after try was unsuccessful.  The wet field conditions contributed to a lot of miscues by both teams, but the Cardinals managed to get on the board late in the second quarter on a long run around the left end.  The 2-point try was good and the Cardinals took a 8-6 lead into the half.

Savoy threatened in the third, but Jacob Tanguma recovered a Cardinal fumble at the goal line to halt another Savoy scoring threat.  However, the Cardinal defense was able to take down Tiger quarterback Cody Huff two plays later to pick up the safety and extend the lead to 10-6.

The two teams battled back and forth until Trenton converted a 4th and 7 pass from Huff to Kyle Wylie for a 38-yard touchdown.  Cowan took the ball off right tackle for two to put the Tigers ahead 14-10 with just over 3:00 left in the contest.  The Tiger defense tightened and forced the Cardinals to turn it over on downs and then ran out the clock for the win.

The contest marked the first football game for Trenton since the 1959 season.  The Tigers will travel to Krum this Thursday.  Kickoff for the Red team is at 4:30, while the Black team action starts at 6:00.
