There may be no event that rivals county fairs when it comes to reviving the frontier spirit of hardy, self-sufficient settlers that carved homesteads out of North Texas.

And every county fair is a unique reflection of the heritage passed down from generation to generation.  In that regard, many of the skills exhibited at the 2009 Fannin County Fair are the same skills that allowed families to flourish in this area 150 years ago.

Cherished quilts were more than beautiful; they also kept winter's chill at bay.

A fundamental understanding of genetics allowed livestock owners to improve herds.

Children performed important chores from morning until night.

A visit to the 2009 Fannin County Fair will reaffirm that lifestyle still exists in the gentle rolling hills of North Texas.

The annual fall highlight actually begins with the Fannin County Fair Parade slated for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3.

To learn more about participating in this year's parade, contact Kristi Fitzwater at 903-583-2101.
