Van Alstyne scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning and pulled away to beat Bonham 16-10 in regional Majors tournament competition Saturday in Bonham.
Van Alstyne went up 1-0, but Bonham tied the game on a squeeze bunt by Dayne Dunlap and then took the lead when Shelby Williams stole home on a wild pitch.
A two-run shot over the left field fence by Lane Fox had Bonham out front, 4-1. But Van Alstyne scored four runs with two outs in the top of the fourth frame to reclaim the lead, 5-4.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bonham's Dalton Cagle raced home on a fielder's choice to even the score at 5-5.
Van Alstyne racked up back-to-back ground-rule doubles in the top of the sixth inning and plated five runners, including four runs with two outs.
Bonham trimmed the VA lead to 10-7 in the bottom of the sixth stanza, but the Van Alstyne bats drove in six more runs in the top of the seventh. Bonham managed three runs in their final at-bat.
Bonham will take on Wolfe City at 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening.
Van Alstyne will take the field at 6:00 p.m. Sunday against the winner of the Euless/Trenton game.
