Hazel Irene Fleming, 88, of Honey Grove went to her heavenly home Wednesday June 24, 2009 at Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, Texas.

 

Services will be 10:00A.M. Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove, Texas. Pastor Lonnie Johnson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Nick Finney, Jerry Yeager, Jimmy Doyle, Michael Fleming, Daniel Fleming and Lee Perkins. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00A.M. until service time.

 

Mrs. Fleming was born March 10, 1921 in Van Alstyne, Texas to parents, Lee Oscar Blankenship and Mamie Lee White Blankenship.  In 1943 she and her family started Lee’s Café on 6th street in Honey Grove where she met her future husband, Lewis Malcolm Fleming. They married Dec. 5, 1944 in Antlers, OK. and were married for 64 years 5 months and 20 days. After she and Lewis were married they became involved in several business ventures for 55 years which included operating the Dairy Bar.

 

As a young child Hazel lived at and attended school in Telephone through the 9th grade. She graduated from Bonham High School. Her faith in Christ started at an early age while living in Telephone. She accepted Christ and was baptised and became a member of the First Baptist Church there. She later moved her membership to First Baptist Church of Honey Grove and was a faithful member for more than 60 years.

 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and Sisters, Lillie Newberry and Emily Ford.

 

Hazel is survived by her loving husband, Lewis Fleming of the home, Daughter, Peggy Don Finney and Husband, Kimo and Grandson, Nicholas James Finney all of Paris. Sisters, Dorothy Blankenship of Honey Grove and Betty Lou Rigo of Dallas.
