Bonham – With much of Texas reeling from a drought of epic proportions, staying on top of the latest beef production tools has never played a more crucial role, says Fannin County Farm Bureau President Jerry Magness.

“Some counties in Texas have been listed among the nation’s absolute worst conditions since last year,” Magness said. “While we can’t change the weather, we can do our part to better educate ourselves on management strategies.”

The Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course, scheduled for Aug. 3-5 in College Station, will offer producers just such an opportunity. More than 20 of the courses offered are specifically catered to drought issues, including sessions on brush control, forage management and herd selection decisions.

Registrants will have an opportunity to receive seven pesticide continuing education units, veterinary continuing education credits and Texas Beef Quality Producer credits.

Registration for the short course is $140 per person and includes education materials, the 600-page proceedings list, and trade show admittance, admission to the prime rib dinner, and meals and daily refreshments.
