Commerce Police investigate stabbing

Around 2:45 a.m. on June 3, Commerce officers responded to a report of an injured person in the 2100 block of Washington Street.  When they arrivied, they found the victim laying in front of the residence with a large stab wound to his left back side and left forearm.  

Medical personnel arrived, provided assistance to the individual then transported him to Greenville Hospital. 

During the investigation, detectives spoke with the victim's girlfriend who stated that she stabbed him because he was assaulting her.   The suspect cooperated fully with police during, taking them back to the crime scene and showed them the weapon, a 13-inch kitchen knife. 

She told detectives that during an argument she went inside the house and retrived the knife, returned to the front yard and stapped him.  Both names are being withheld at this time.   

The victim's injuries do not appear to be life threatening. 

This investigation is ongoing.
