An Alzheimer's Caregiver Class uniquely designed for in home caregivers is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2009 in Collinsville, TX. The six-hour class is designed for relatives and friends of those with Alzheimer's Sitters, nurse aides or companions who provide care for persons with any type of dementia will also find this class helpful. Attendees include those who are currently working with someone with Alzheimer's or who may do so in the future.
The class covers physical care, dealing with problem behaviors, ways to communicate effectively, and how to help insure the safety of a person with Alzheimer’s. This unique learning opportunity is from 9am to 3pm at Collinsville Church of Christ, 201 South Walnut in Collinsville. The class is free to relatives of persons with Alzheimer's or related dementia. There is a $25 fee for the professional caregiver. Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided.
The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. The mission of the organization is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
“We didn’t realize how much we had to learn until we went to the caregiver class,” remarked a husband and wife team caring for her mother with AD. A wife providing 24/7 care for her spouse said, “It was just wonderful to talk to other people who are doing this (care giving) too!” Participation in an Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Class is an important way to learn more about the disease and how to care for a person with dementia.
