Time to sign up for second annual Horned Toad Cook Off

QUANAH, TX. - It is now time to send in entries and sponsorships for the second Annual Horned Toad Cook Off, for Saturday, April 4, 2009.  The first weekend in April is right around the corner.  The first twelve entries received get a sponsored camp site.

"It's time to get those entries and sponsorships in for this year's event," said Carl Hopper, event chair.  "We have commitments from 14 teams and as many sponsors, but a number of those have not actually come in, yet."

This year's cook off  is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbeque Society and co sponsored by the Quahadi Society, Friends of Copper Breaks State Park. The park friends group is a 501c3 tax exempt organization committed to supporting special programs at the park.

Sponsors for campsites include Rock Hill Arms, Down Home Texas Mesquite, the Long Ranch Partnership, Jeanette and Peyton Ramey, Jeri and David Turner, Tumbleweed Western Wear, and the First National Bank of Chillicothe, all of Quanah, Texas.  The Dragon Ranch, Thalia, Texas has posted a sponsorship and prizes have been donated by First National Bank of Quanah, Quanah Lions Club, Carl and Tonya Hopper, Security Bank of Crowell, Tiger Lylyz and Alley Katz, Stanley Butts I and II, Crowell Contract and Design, and Farm Bureau Insurance.  Sonic, Red's, Thompson Sawyer Public Library, Hardeman County Hospital District, the Q,A & P Museum and Quanah's United Supermarket have also contributed prizes.

Sponsorships are available in $25, $50, $100, and 'other' categories.  The competition will feature four categories, chicken, pork, brisket, and jackpot beans.  To enter the Jackpot Beans is $10. Entry fee for one or all of the meat categories is $60.00.

Event organizers also call for regional, local and statewide celebrities to participate as judges at the event.
