Lynda Dunham-Watkins has received notification that she has again won an international Industry's Choice Doll of the Year (DOTY) award, presented each year by the Doll Reader Magazine at the International Doll Exposition in Florida, for William F. Cody (Buffalo Bill), a polymer clay figure hand sculpted by Lynda. This is Lynda's second DOTY Award, the first was for 'Summer' in 2007.

Cody will now be in competition for an even higher award, a People's Choice DOTY to be voted on by the public in the May issue of the Doll Reader magazine to be awarded in Las Vegas in late June.  This competition draw entries from around the world, and to win a DOTY is to win one of the highest awards in the industry.  Images of the winners can soon be seen online at www.dollreader.com as well as more information about the awards, etc.

As stated by Lynda, "Buffalo Bill has always intrigued me.  He had the vision and made us all see the old West through his Wild West Show. He has now come alive for me in this 19-inch portraiture sculpture made using the Robert McKinley method for his body armature.

"I sculpted him using ProSculpt polymer clay and used imported mohair for his gorgeous blond locks that he was famous for. I hand stitched and laced his leather buckskin jacket, fringed it and hand painted the roses.  His fringed gloves are sculpted from clay with roses and flowers hand embossed and hand painted.

"The spatterdashes are black leather with a strap and buckle right above the knee.  He wore his a little higher than many.

"The spurs fasten with a strap around the foot over sculpted boots and are embellished with turquoise. The wooden base is covered with cowhide and trimmed with rope. He holds in his gloved hand a hat that is decorated with turquoise and a feather.

"In his other hand he holds a hand painted replica rifle made of resin.  Buffalo Bill was a flamboyant dresser and was usually groomed impeccably.  I tried to portray him that way."

Mainly self-taught, Lynda has been sculpting for three years, with many of her doll sculptures winning top awards in contests since early in her career which started about the same time as her retirement.  She starts her days early in her home workshop in Powderly, Texas and usually ends them late.  Lynda is excited about attending advanced sculpting classes in April with an artist from the Netherlands in Houston and with another well known sculptor in October.

The artist's current project is sculpting 6"- 10" Santas for Reasons to Believe, a Christmas collector's delight in Monroe, Washington.  Lynda is not on their website, but will be in the next few weeks.

Lynda's sculptures are available for viewing and purchasing at the Plaza Art Gallery in Paris, Texas where she is a member of the Lamar County Art Guild, at the Jordan Art Gallery in Corsicana, Texas, and at Reasons To Believe in Monroe, Washington.
