Wild turkeys will be the topic for Second Saturday at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge Feb. 14

A demonstration of turkey calling will highlight Second Saturday at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge on February 14.  The president of the Dallas Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Marc Edwards, will be the speaker for  the Second Saturday nature program  at the Refuge, and  will speak on the conservation, status and history of the wild turkey in Texas, particularly in Grayson County and at Hagerman NWR .   The program will begin at 10 a.m. in the AV Center at the Refuge.

Edwards will illustrate his talk with photos, slides and a display of mounted animals, as well as  demonstration of  calling.  He has served as  president of the Dallas Chapter of the NWTF  for the last eleven years and  is also a member of the Texoma Chapter. 

Edwards is a resident of Grayson County, living on a farm outside Gordonville.  He owns Edwards Exotic Expeditions and has been a professional hunting guide and outfitter for 25 years.   Edwards has harvested the Grand Slam of Wild Turkeys (Rio Grande, Merriams, Eastern and Osceola).  He has called in over 200 birds to be harvested.  

Accompanying Edwards on the program will be Nanette Stockstill, Regional Director of the National Wild Turkey Federation, with a presentation, “Conservation of the Wild Turkey in America.

Second Saturday nature programs sponsored by the Friends of Hagerman NWR and  are free and open to the public.  Seating is limited and on a first come first serve basis.
