The Honey Grove High School Beta Club attended the 51st State Beta Convention in Austin on January 9-10 at the Hilton Hotel. The group continued their winning ways at the state convention. The scrapbook won its competition and will advance to the national convention for the 13th year in a row. The banner won third place with its banner the theme "Lights, Camera, Beta."

Eric Foster is the State Beta Secretary and he presided over the third general session. He gave his keynote address "Life's a Dance, You Learn as You Go." The group talent placed first with its talent titled "Annie and the Orphanettes" that included the songs "It's a Hard Knock Life," and "Tomorrow." Talent participants were Kati Ashley, Catherine Bell, Michael Augostini, Emily Ashcraft, Brittanee Pevey, Brittney Kelso, Amira Jabai, Haley Morris, Adrian Gardner, and
Ariel Andrews. The talent will compete at the national convention this
summer.
Keith Sherwood had a successful convention by placing second in pencil drawing and third in Modern Oratory. He will compete at the national convention in pencil drawing. Kati Ashley sang "God Bless America" and Braley Barnett led the audience in the pledge at the third general session.
Vikki Coronado represented the club as a candidate for State Beta Secretary. Her campaign skit members were Michael Augostoni, Tori Lentz, Adrian Gardner, Catherine Bell, Leidy Maldonado, Shelby Neeley, Preston Thompson, Marlee Neeley, Noah Stroud, Amira Jabai, Haley Morris, and Mackenzie Langston.
Several students participated in the scholastic competition. They were Samantha Reece-Math, Hunter Joyce-Science, Preston Thompson-Social Studies, Megan Brown-Creative Writing, Kati Ashley-English, and Spelling-Jordan Rhodes. Robert Milton
was recognized as a member of the state council and Ruth Ann Jones was recognized as a former state sponsor. Also the group was awarded the second place trophy for their service hours to the school and community.
Other Beta members and sponsors attending the convention were Miranda O'Dea, Dylynn Hokett, Diana Porcayo, Candisha Smith, Lexi Daniels, Macey Reece, Regan Rickman, Sham Beard, Madelyn Cunningham, Ross Rutherford, Jacie McDowell, Paula Echeverria, Ronni Hayes, and Trevor Hevron, Pam Lochridge, Tammy Whitlock, and Myra Rodgers. Parents and guests attending were Shawonna Brown, Sydney Foster, Jennette and Kourtney Pevey, Tonya
Gaither, Linda Pevey, Karen Aldridge, Lonnie and Monica Ashley, and Tony, Cheryl, and Randi Sherwood.
The group looks forward to attending the national convention this summer in Orlando, Florida where the group talent will perform, Keith Sherwood will be entering the pencil drawing contest, and the scrapbook will compete in the national competition.
