BIG SANDY--The Church of God Big Sandy will sponsor a benefit bluegrass concert at no charge to the public on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009.
The event will feature the wildly popular East Texas group Sons of the South playing and singing traditional acoustic bluegrass selections.
"With the rough economy facing many families, the Church of God Big Sandy wanted to provide a concert for the citizens of Big Sandy and the surrounding areas of East Texas," said Dave Havir, pastor of the church.
Although there is no charge for admission to the concert, the organizers hope to raise funds to help the local Frontier Girls troop by selling refreshments during the event.
The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. No tickets are required. Doors will open at 6 o'clock.
The location is the fellowship hall of the building owned by the Church of God Sandy a half mile west of town on Highway 80.
The Sons of the South are four residents of Kilgore and Gladewater, all members of the Forrestier family.
Deric Forrestier plays lead guitar. Brother Jason plays bass, with another brother, Clayton, on Dobro and Deric's son Seth on mandolin.
