The Bonham Public Library is proud to announce the receipt of the 2003 Summit Award by their general contractor Harrison, Walker and Harper LP of Paris, Texas.  This award is given annually by QUOIN, the Dallas-Fort Worth area Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.  By receiving the local award, the project advances to the Texas Building Branch Outstanding Awards Competition where it will again be judged.  The winning projects will be presented during the Texas Building Branch Convention in New York City this July.

There are five competition categories.  The Bonham Public Library, designed by Brad Waters of Providence Architecture, was entered in the Traditional category for projects up to $1.5 million.  Other categories are Design/Build, Industrial/Warehouse, Interior, and Specialty, each with sub-categories.The judging criteria included: difficulty in construction resulting from design, location and materials; unusual construction techniques; the final appearance and quality of the finished product; and timeliness of completion.

Librarian Barbara McCutcheon worked with Harrison, Walker and Harper to gather all the necessary documentation for the entry.  During the process of building and retrofitting the former library into the current one, the library remained open around the corner and close to the construction.

QUOIN is one of the largest chapters in the 102 chapter membership of the Associated General Contractors of America.  Its geographic area covers 47 counties in north and east Texas.  More information can be obtained by visiting http://www.quoin.org/.

An award plaque was presented to the library Friday morning, April 11, by Harrison, Walker and Harper representative Chip Harper.  Library staff and board members, as well as city officials, were in attendance.  Librarian Barbara McCutcheon accepted the award on behalf of the City of Bonham.
