SHERMAN, Texas – Adam Bishop knocked down a 12-footer as the shot clock expired with just over a minute remaining for what proved to be the game winner and Mark Foster came off the bench to score 17 points as the Austin College men’s basketball team held off Milwaukee School of Engineering 58-54 on Monday afternoon in Hughey Gymnasium.  With the win, the ’Roos improve to 5-4 on the year.

It took more than two minutes for either team to get on the board to start the game, with Kola Alade knocking down a short jumper at the 17:51 mark to give Austin College the game’s first points, and Chris Sturtevant scored five straight to make it 7-0 early in favor of the ’Roos.  Josh Saunders knocked down a three and Mark Foster hit a layup as Austin College extended to a 13-2 lead with 13:00 on the clock.

Consecutive baskets by Jamel Sabree made it a 13-6 game, but Foster hit a pair of free throws and a trey and Spencer Burke scored inside to push it to a 20-7 game with 9:35 left in the half, but Milwaukee used an 11-3 run highlighted by triples from Andy Voigt and Austin Kearns to cut it to a 23-18 game with 4:44 remaining.  Alade answered with five quick points and Bishop knocked down a three to help Austin College get it back to a 10 point game at 31-21, but Tyler Morgan hit a three of his own with 16 seconds left in the half to make it 33-24 at the break.

Kyle Lintelman knocked down a trey to get things started for Austin College in the second half but the Raiders used a 9-0 run to cut it to a 36-35 game with 13:26 on the clock.  The ’Roos would respond with an 11-2 run that included another three from Bishop and back to back three point plays from Foster and Sturtevant to make it a 47-37 game with 9:41 left in the game.

The Raiders battled back behind Voigt and Austin Meier, who combined to score 13 points over the next eight minutes as Milwaukee came roaring back to tie things at 54 with 1:07 left in the game.  With just one second on the shot clock and the ball on the baseline, Bishop inbounded the ball off the back of a Milwaukee defender, picking it up and hitting the short jumper as the clock expired for what would prove to be the game winner as Austin College held on for the four point win.

Foster hit a pair of threes and all five of his free throw attempts on his way to a game-high 17 and Alade hit 4-of-7 from the field to finish with 12 points and nine rebounds.  Bishop and Sturtevant each chipped in with eight points while Burke grabbed eight rebounds and swatted away six shots and Lintelman had a game-best four assists.
