SHERMAN, TEXASAustin College’s Concert Band is seeking qualified musicians from the community to audition for performance, with openings in most sections of the band. The Concert Band director, Robert Archer, Austin College adjunct instructor in music, explained that the group is a full concert band, doubling many parts. The large ensemble, he said, is dedicated to reading and performing traditional and contemporary band literature.

The band, now in its sixth season, is a joint effort of Austin College and community musicians. Current members of the Concert Band are Austin College students — music majors and non-music majors, Austin College instrumental faculty, area high school band directors, and community members.

The band began rehearsals Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. in Craig Hall. Regular rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7 to 9 p.m. in Craig Hall on the Austin College campus.

Individuals seeking information about the ensemble or wishing to participate should contact Archer at barcher@austincollege.edu or call the Department of Music at (903) 813-2251.
