The Metroplex is home to countless bicycle enthusiasts in search of those winding ribbons of quiet, two-lane blacktop.

Fannin County, on the other hand, has a wealth of lightly traveled roads that weave through the peaceful rolling hills of the Red River Valley.

And once a year all of that comes together for the Autumn in Bonham Bike Rally, an event that draws more riders every year, while showcasing the communities of Fannin County.

Hundreds of bicyclists converged on Bonham September 27 for the rally.  From veteran riders challenging the 64-mile, 54-mile and 44-mile routes, to families and casual riders out to simply enjoy a pleasant morning pedaling through scenic countryside, everyone seemed to select an itinerary that suited them best.

Every route had its highlights.  The 64-milers passed within a mile of Coffee Mill Lake before turning east and touring through Mulberry, Ravenna and Ector.

After passing through Dodd City, Gober, Bailey and Leonard, the daunting Leonard Hills challenged the 54-milers as they headed north towards Bonham.

The 44-mile route was very similar, except that riders turned east on Hwy. 11 at Bailey and then headed north through Edhude on their way back into Bonham.

Recreational riders and families enjoyed the scenic 28-mile route that took them out of Bonham traveling south on Hwy. 78 before turning right to traverse the rolling hills of FM 1553 en route to Edhube and then Bonham.

The 14-mile selection carried bicyclists out of Bonham north on Hwy. 78 and then back into town on Hwy. 121.

Enthusiastic volunteers staffed rest stops along each route and riders were treated to free hamburgers after the bike rally.

The 64-milers are off!
