Several women from the Bonhi Class of ’73 as well as other alumni and friends are joining forces to battle Alzheimer’s disease by walking in the October 4 Memory Walk in Allen, Texas.

Each participant has his or her own motivation for wanting to contribute to the fight against this debilitating illness.

Kathryn Williams-Guzman and grandchildren

Kathryn Guzman:  The first person I was aware of who had Alzheimer's disease was W.T. May, Texas Ex, Bonham pharmacist, avid golfer, and long-time friend.  Watching the devastating effects of that disease on his life has never left me.  So, I'm walking in honor of him and all the others who have this terrible disease so that a cure can be found.

Frank Guzman

Frank Guzman:  I like to participate in every charitable event that I can, especially those that involve walking.  Allen, Texas, is in my assigned region with Atmos Energy Company and I'm proud to help however I can.  Quite a few employees in my Plano District have made contributions in our names.

Paula Galyon

Paula Galyon states simply: “I am doing this because of family.”

Judy Bowman

Judy Bowman: I'm walking in the Alzheimers Memory Walk in memory of my aunt, Lois English.  Aunt Lois had been a wonderfully bright and vibrant woman for most of her life.  She died four years ago from the effects of Alzheimers.  Aunt Lois was a teacher and strong influence in my choosing teaching as my career

(l-r) Karen Porter Mays, Glenna Cromer and Kathryn Williams-Guzman

Karen Porter Mays: We’re all in this together...and if everyone takes just one step to get involved, we give everyone a reason to hope, until Alzheimer’s is just a memory.

Glenna Cromer: I’m walking in memory of my Aunt Willie Cobb, who taught elementary school for many years in Paris, Texas. My father-in-law was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, so I walk in honor of him. I also dedicate this team and this effort to all Bonhi friends who have loved ones who are living or who have passed away with this disease.
