"It means a lot to me to know that my collection will continue to be used," said White. "I love Fannin County, and its history and citizens mean a lot to me. I could never make myself throw away pictures of special events, programs, my notes and the other things I collected over the years."
The Fannin County Historical Commission (FCHC) will be open from 1-5 p.m. Monday thru Saturday throughout the summer. This will make it more convenient for members of the community to be able to search for Fannin County historical information. All of the original information, previously kept by the FCHC in the Fannin County Courthouse, is available for research.
The FCHC continues with its primary mission, collecting oral interviews from Fannin County citizens, and a list of those completed is available at the office. More volunteers are needed to interview people in the various Fannin County communities. If you are interested in preserving your local history please call 903-583-5947 for information.
The FCHC meets on the Third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in their meeting room, located at One North Center Street, Bonham. (Next door to the Fannin County Museum of History in the old Bonham railroad depot.) The meetings are open to the public and guests are welcome to attend. Programs are given on even numbered months.
The FCHC would like the community to know that a meeting room is available to local agencies having a mission that pertains to the history of Fannin County. Contact the FCHC at 903-583-5947, One North Center Street, Bonham, Texas 75418, historicalcomm@netexas.net.
