Dallas, TX -- LUV Homes of Denison staff and volunteers hosted a flea market on April 26, 2008 that raised $1,006 for the Alzheimer's Association. The flea market was at LUV Homes 5020 Texoma Parkway business and they donated all space rental fees and food sales to the Alzheimer's Association.
The Association provides a full time Family Services Manager serving Grayson, Fannin and Cooke Counties, with assistance for low income families needing respite care and numerous educational programs are conducted in the tri-county region.
The flea market had over 30 booths and inexpensive food and beverages available for all who attended. Association volunteers Tim Reik and Troy Baker grilled over 1,300 hot dogs to feed the crowds. Funds raised at the flea market from space rental, the Alzheimer's Association booth, food sales and donations were matched by LUV Homes corporate office, and CMH Homes Inc. out of Maryville, TN.
In addition to the funds, a large number of people received information about Alzheimer's. Several individuals talked seriously about becoming Association volunteers and others availed themselves of the free literature provided.
"The whole day was lots of work, but even more fun," Alzheimer's Association Family Services Manager Dianna Niemann-Harris said. "We cannot thank LUV Homes enough for providing us with this opportunity."
Currently an area Assisted Living Facility and members of the Denison Support Group are in conversation and approaching others about a fall flea market locally in support of the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. This year's Memory Walk is September 27, 2008 at Hilltop Haven in Gunter.
