“We’re doing this for Mammie,” said Coach David Horner.
To honor his wife of 37 years, Coach Horner and his family have organized a scholarship fund to help and assist local students in furthering their education.
Melinda Horner, also known as Mammie, was a teacher at Honey Grove ISD touching the lives of her students and pushing them to become great individuals.
A car accident took Melinda away from her classroom, but her words of wisdom are shouting out through her family.
The first annual Melinda Horner Memorial Scholarship Tournament will be held Saturday, June 28 at the Honey Grove Golf Course beginning at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to winners including, closest to the hole and long drive winners.
For more information contact Todd or Leah Morrison at 903-378-3230.
Following the golf tournament will be a special concert featuring Honey Grove’s Tyler Dow Bryant in honor of Melinda’s memory. Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Honey Grove Elementary Cafeteria. A silent auction is set to begin at 6 with concessions available. The cost is $7 per person.
